Addendum for the sake of benefit: Types of permissible backbiting, the third instance: "and warning"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Of this type is the third category: "the complainant, the one who identifies, and the one who warns":
And the one who warns: without a question and answer, a Muslim sees a young Muslim man who has grown up in obedience to Allah, or a veiled, covered, and modest girl who associates with a girl of no moral character. It is obligatory for the Muslim man or woman to warn that young man or young woman about associating with that deviant person, for fear that he will be corrupted by his association and companionship. There are many hadiths, all revolving around one issue, which is that a Muslim—and we must always know that if we say: "Muslim", the Muslim woman is included in this meaning—that a Muslim must choose the companion and friend with whom he associates and mixes. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not accompany except a believer, and do not serve your food except to one with Taqwa. لا تصاحب إلا مؤمناً ولا يأكل طعامك إلا تقي
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2395Sahih (Darussalam)
.

Because, as the common proverb says: "A companion is a drag-along". Indeed, a companion is a drag-along; the contagion of a companion of bad character spreads from him to his companion. For this reason, the Messenger (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) excelled when he gave the example of the righteous companion and the wicked companion by saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The example of the righteous companion is like the seller of musk: either he gives you some, or he gives you a piece, or you smell a pleasant scent from him. And the example of the bad companion is like the owner of the bellows (the blacksmith): either he burns your clothes, or you smell a foul odor from him
This is the example of the companion, whether he is righteous or wicked; there is no escape from one’s companion being affected by him, for good or for evil. If that is the case, then if you see a young man accompanying an open sinner, you must warn him and say to him, "So-and-so has such and such characteristics." This, although it is backbiting, is from the backbiting that is exempted from prohibition, because religion is sincere advice, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Religion is sincerity (An-Nasihah).' They said: 'To whom, O Messenger of Allah?' he said: 'To Allah, to His Book, to His Messenger, to the imams of the Muslims, and to their common folk الدين النصيحة الدين النصيحة الدين النصيحة، قالوا لمن يا رسول الله ؟ قال: لله ولكتابه ولرسوله ولأئمة المسلمين وعامتهم
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4197Sahih (Darussalam)
This is from the sincere advice to the general Muslim community when we see a Muslim accompanying a Muslim open sinner whose nature and character he does not know. It is obligatory for us to warn him about him so that he is not affected by him.
This is the third type, which is the one who warns: the complainant, the one who identifies, and the one who warns.
