Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: And in the hadith that follows, another Companion, who is also Ibn 'Umar, applied this hadith according to its apparent meaning, as narrated with his authentic chain. From 'Ata ibn Abi Rabah: That a man was praising a man in the presence of Ibn 'Umar, so Ibn 'Umar began throwing dirt in his face and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: إذا رأيتم المدَّاحين فاحثوا في وجوههم التراب When you see those who shower (undue) praise (upon others), throw dust upon their faces.Sahih Muslim 3002b . From these two hadiths, it is confirmed that the meaning of throwing dirt in the faces of those who praise excessively is according to its apparent meaning, and not according to any of the interpretations that we mentioned one of them earlier. From here, we adopt a methodology in interpreting the texts, which is not strange to you.
