The Shaykh : Our lesson today is in the chapter: "Throwing dust in the faces of those who praise others." This means throwing dust. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with his authentic chain of narration from Abu Ma'mar, who said: A man stood up praising one of the rulers, so al-Miqdad began throwing dust in his face and said: Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 36:18. In our previous lesson, we passed through hadiths regarding the prohibition of praising a man to his face. Now, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) established this chapter to clarify the ruling regarding the one who praises another: what is done with this praiser? In this hadith, it is explicitly stated that the Messenger (peace be upon him) ordered that dust be thrown in the face of the praiser. This means taking a handful of dust and then striking the face of this praiser. It is an immediate punishment for this praiser in this world before the Hereafter. This is the meaning of the hadith: We were ordered to throw, meaning to strike them with a handful of dust, in the faces of those who praise others.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to throw dust in the faces of those who praise others.
