Explaining the ruling on the prayer of one who speaks while forgetful or ignorant
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I will add to this by saying clearly the truth: he did not tell him to repeat the prayer. This is a legal ruling derived from this hadith by the Shafi'i scholars: if a person speaks during his prayer while distracted, forgetful, or ignorant, the speech does not invalidate the prayer, so his prayer is valid. Where did they derive this from? From the fact that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami to repeat the prayer in which he spoke, and from his (peace and blessings be upon him) limiting the ruling to the fact that it is not permissible for him to speak, as if he were saying: Next time you pray, do not speak in your prayer, for such speech is not suitable for prayer. From this, it becomes clear to us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command the good and wise manner in teaching, and he was the master of teachers who adopt these good and easy methods for people, which contain no hardship or burden on them. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 245, and in this phrase: , there is an affirmation by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of an important legal principle, namely that Islam is built on ease, not on hardship, [Al-Baqarah 2:185]. And he also said: [Al-Hajj 22:78]. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would seize one opportunity after another to affirm this principle and establish it in the minds of his Companions. For example, when he sent Mu'adh and Abu Musa al-Ash'ari to Yemen, he said: . He sent them as teachers for the people of Yemen. So when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in this hadith, as a teaching for the people in general: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 245, he also specifically addressed the select among the people, such as Abu Musa and Mu'adh, when he sent them to Yemen, saying to them: . And in affirmation of this, it was the starting point of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his life. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:16. From this, we understand that those who are severe in religion with their ideas and opinions are contradicting this great Islamic principle, which is that the original basis in religion is ease, not difficulty. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in this hadith: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 245.
