The Criterion for a Muslim Praising His Muslim Brother

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And this is exactly like his saying, peace and blessings be upon him:
Praising is slaughtering, praising is slaughtering, praising is slaughtering — he repeated it three times — if one of you must praise his brother, let him say: "I think he is such and such, and Allah is his accountant, and I do not certify anyone as righteous before Allah."
. And when a Muslim praises his Muslim brother, he praises him based on what appears to him of his righteousness, just as the righteousness of that man who strives in the path of Allah appears. But we do not know what this person whom you certify as righteous, or that one who died on the battlefield, is concealing. For the secrets and hearts are in the hand of Allah, especially since it is authentic from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said:
The hearts of the servants are between two fingers قلوب العباد بين أُصبعين
—or two fingers— of the fingers of the Most Merciful, He turns them as He wills. And so among his supplications, peace and blessings be upon him, was that he would say:
O changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion يا مقلّب القلوب ثبّت قلبي على دينك وطاعتك
