What is the ruling on telling jokes or making fun of things for the sake of laughter, such as those who narrate stories about ants and the like?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you and reward you with good. The questioner : What is the ruling on telling jokes or making fun of things for the sake of laughter, such as those who narrate stories about ants and the like?

The Shaykh : The ants?

The questioner : About ants and the like, does that fall under the hadith:
Woe to the one who tells a lie to make the people laugh, woe to him, woe to him. ويل لمن يكذب الكذبة ليضحك بها القوم ويل له ويل له
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that making fun of people and making them laugh by narrating some stories and lies is not permissible to adopt as a means, because it is established in some narrations that excessive laughter kills the heart, and this is not the concern of those who know the value of their time. It has been said in the old wisdoms mentioned by Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him): "Time is like a sword; if you do not cut it, it will cut you". It is obligatory to direct this time to what benefits people, not to what wastes their time without benefit, and specifically to waste their time to make them laugh with some lies. And it came in some of the Sunan:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw a woman gesturing to her son, saying to him: "Here, take it, come, take it." So the Messenger (peace be upon him) looked and did not find anything in her hand, so he said to her: "A lie." أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم رأى امرأة تشير إلى صبي لها تقول له: هاه خذ تعال خذ فنظر الرسول عليه السلام فلم يجد في يدها شيئاً فقال لها : كذيبة
This gesture that misleads the child to come to his mother thinking there is something in her hand for him to eat, the Messenger (peace be upon him) considered it a lie. Those who make people laugh by narrating jokes, there is no doubt that he falls into lying in order to please them or make them laugh, so this is not permissible except if it happens very rarely, and the rare occurrence has no ruling. Yes.
