The Shaykh : About ants?
The questioner : About ants and the like; does that fall under the hadith: or as he said - peace and blessings be upon him -?
The Shaykh : There is no doubt that telling jokes and making people laugh by narrating some stories and lies is something that is not permissible to take as a means; because as it is established in some narrations that excessive laughter kills the heart, and this is not the concern of those who know the value of their time. It has been said in the ancient wisdoms mentioned by Imam al-Shafi'i - may Allah have mercy on him: "Time is like a sword; if you do not cut it, it will cut you." So it is obligatory to direct this time to what benefits people, and not to what wastes their time first without benefit, and especially to waste their time by making them laugh with some lies. It has come in some of the Sunan that the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him and his family - saw a woman gesturing to her boy, saying to him: "Here, take it, come, take it." The Messenger - peace be upon him - looked and did not find anything in her hand, so he said to her: "A little lie." This gesture that misleads the boy to come to his mother thinking there is something in her hand for him to eat, the Messenger - peace be upon him - considered it a little lie. So those who make people laugh by narrating jokes, there is no doubt that he falls into lying in order to entertain them and make them laugh; so this is not permissible except if it happens very rarely, and the rare occurrence has no ruling.
Yes.
