What is the amount of rain that permits combining the prayers?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What about the rain? I didn't understand, meaning I didn't hear.

The questioner : I say: the quantity, the quantity.

The Shaykh : We need the quantity, that's it.

The questioner : That which wets the clothes.

The Shaykh : We need an observatory to calculate it for us and give us precise information.

The questioner : I mean a lot, meaning light rain; is there evidence for that?

The Shaykh : As soon as it is true that rain has fallen, or do I rely on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
If the sandals get wet, then pray in your places إذا ابتلت النعال فالصلاة في الرحال
This is a hadith for which we do not know a sound chain, but the falling of rain is understood by all people, and it is not from the Shari'ah to be overly strict in being precise in these matters, because as came in some authentic hadiths:
We were forbidden from pretending. نهينا عن التكلف
And in another wording, I used to see it in the takhrij of the hadiths of *Ihya' al-'Ulum al-Din*:
I and my Ummah are free from strain. أنا وأمتي براء من التكلف
And that suffices for that, or for this hadith, is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The excessively strict ones are ruined, the excessively strict ones are ruined, the excessively strict ones are ruined هلك المتنطعون، هلك المتنطعون، هلك المتنطعون
So we are not obligated to be precise in such issues.
