What is your opinion regarding one who says to leave the recommended practices (sunnah) in order to devote oneself to da'wah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He also says, what is your opinion regarding one who says to leave the recommended practices (sunnah) in order to devote oneself to da'wah?

The Shaykh : For the sake of what?

The questioner : His devotion to da'wah.

The Shaykh : His devotion to da'wah. And Allah, in this matter, there is great consideration, because I see from the fitnah of the present age that everyone who has some enthusiasm, whether great or small, and a little knowledge, considers himself a da'i and justifies for himself matters in which he was more in need of doing them than of leaving them. Therefore, I say that leaving them in accordance with the methodology of that Bedouin or Najdi who asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about what Allah had made obligatory upon him of prayers, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) answered him that Allah has made obligatory five prayers in every day and night. The completion of the hadith is known, but in every obligatory prayer the Messenger mentioned, that questioner would ask, "Is there anything else upon me besides them?" The answer from him (peace be upon him) was:
No, except that you do voluntary acts. He said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not add to them nor subtract from them. لا إلا أن تتطوع قال: والله يا رسول الله لا أزيد عليهن ولا أنقص
So the answer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that he said:
That man will be successful, if he is telling the truth. أفلح الرجل إن صدق
Muwatta Malik 9:103
He will enter Paradise if he is sincere. دخل الجنة إن صدق
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2090Sahih (Darussalam)
If one of these Muslims today wants their methodology to be this methodology, that he does not perform anything but the obligatory acts, we cannot say to him that he has done wrong, but we say to him, "You have succeeded if you are truthful." As for justifying his leaving the sunnah by saying he is busy with da'wah, while he is not from the people of da'wah, but rather he is from the people of da'wah—you understand from me the concept, if Allah wills, of whoever was with me.
