What is your opinion of one who says to leave the Sunnah in order to devote himself to da'wah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : And he also says: What is your opinion of one who says to leave the Sunnah in order to devote himself to da'wah?

The Shaykh : For the sake of what?

The questioner : His devotion to da'wah.

The Shaykh : His devotion to da'wah, and by Allah, there is great consideration in this matter; because I see that one of the trials of the present age is that every one of us has become possessed of some enthusiasm, whether great or small, and with a little knowledge, he considers himself a da'i, and he justifies to himself matters in which he was more in need of doing them than of leaving them. And so I say: If he leaves them following the methodology of that Bedouin or Najdi who asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about what Allah had made obligatory upon him of prayers, and he answered him (peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah has made obligatory five prayers in every day and night, and the rest of the hadith is well known, but in every obligatory prayer the Messenger mentioned, that questioner would ask him:The questioner : Is there anything else upon me besides them? His answer (peace be upon him) was:
No, unless you do it voluntarily. لا ، إلَّا أن تطوَّع
Sunan an-Nasa'i 458Sahih (Darussalam)
. He said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not add to them nor subtract from them. So the answer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that he said:
The man has succeeded if he is truthful; he will enter Paradise if he is truthful. أفلح الرجل إن صدق ، دخل الجنة إن صدق
. If one of these Muslims today wants their methodology to be this methodology, that he does not perform anything but the obligatory acts, we cannot say to him: You have done wrong, but we say to him: You have succeeded if you were truthful. As for justifying his leaving the Sunnah by saying he is busy with da'wah, while he is not from the people of da'wah; rather, he is from the people of claims; do you understand this phrase? It is understood, if Allah wills, by whoever was with me.
