Does the status of a narrator as unknown (jahil) cease if three narrated from him and the scholars of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil (the critique and vindication of narrators) remained silent about him?

The questioner : Also, another quick issue: is it understood from your words yesterday regarding one from whom more than two narrated, such as if three narrated from him, that his status as unknown (jahil) ceases if the scholars of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil (the critique and vindication of narrators) remained silent about him? Do you hold this view?

The Shaykh : I say that if a group narrated from him such that the researcher is reassured that this group is trustworthy (thiqat).

The questioner : Yes

The Shaykh : And if those who graded them as trustworthy did so with a lenient assessment, then in this case, the mind is reassured to cite his hadith, even if it is at the level of a good (hasan) hadith. Indeed, if the narrators from him are numerous and there is no one who graded him as trustworthy, not even Ibn Hibban, the mind is also reassured to say that this narrator is truthful (siddiq).

The questioner : Yes, and the one who graded him as trustworthy

The Shaykh : So you were not with me

The questioner : I took out the paper...

The Shaykh : This is sufficient. I said in the second answer, and you know that "bal" (but/rather) is used for emphasis (idrab), so I emphasized the first statement in which I mentioned grading as trustworthy with leniency.

The questioner : Yes, this is clear.

The Shaykh : So what I emphasized is what I arrived at, which is not emphasized away. That is, if there is a narrator and a group of four or five trustworthy (thiqat) narrated from him, the mind, in this state, does not return to the issue here; it does not return to the issue.

The questioner : No, no.

The Shaykh :
The believer should not be stung from the same hole twice. لا يلدغ المؤمن من جحر مرتين
Sunan Ibn Majah 3982Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : So in this case, the mind is reassured to lean toward strengthening the hadith of this narrator, even if no one graded him as trustworthy.

The questioner : As if three narrated from him

The Shaykh : Here, more than three

The questioner : More than three

The Shaykh : More than three

The questioner : Very well.
