The Necessity of Considering the Understanding of the Righteous Predecessors in Calling to the Book and the Sunnah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This condition of following the methodology of the Righteous Predecessors may be rejected by some Islamic groups that have not gained understanding, not only of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but even of the Noble Qur'an. This is because this condition I mentioned earlier, which is following the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in what they understood and what they received from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), is something commanded by the Noble Qur'an. We all read in it the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: [An-Nisa 4:115]. His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He: [An-Nisa 4:115], this phrase has an additional meaning to the phrase before it, to which the following phrase is conjoined, where He said, Exalted is He: [An-Nisa 4:115]. He did not say, "Our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and whoever opposes the Messenger after the guidance has become clear to him, We will turn him to what he has turned to," to the end of the verse. Rather, He intended to alert the Muslims to this point I mentioned earlier, which is following the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So He said: [An-Nisa 4:115]. He did not say, "And whoever opposes the Messenger after the guidance has become clear to him, We will turn him to what he has turned to," to the end of the verse. Rather, He added a phrase to the first phrase, as I mentioned earlier, which is: [An-Nisa 4:115]. Therefore, following the path of the believers is a very necessary matter and a foundation of the true Islamic call, without which one who opposes it is not upon guidance from his Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) explained this phrase [An-Nisa 4:115] and clarified that the intended meaning, initially, is the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as in the hadith of the division of the Muslims, just as the Jews and Christians divided. It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: . He did not say in this narration, "It is the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah," because this is understood from many verses and hadiths, such as His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He: [An-Nisa 4:59]. But he said in this hadith, regarding His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He: [An-Nisa 4:59]. But he said in this hadith: , meaning they are the Companions who were upon guidance from their Lord because they followed the footsteps of their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He clarified this meaning further in the other narration where he answered that question, "Who is the saved group?" He said, (peace and blessings be upon him):
So he did not say, "It is only that which I am upon," but he also conjoined to it and said:. This is exactly, if it is not a direct revelation from Allah to the heart of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is a quotation from the previous verse: [An-Nisa 4:115]. What is the path of the believers? It is his Companions, about whom he said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2641Da'if (Darussalam).
This is a very famous hadith that gives the meaning of the verse and clarifies it. The other hadith, which I will summarize because time is short, and there must be other questions from some of the brothers. I have digressed a lot in answering that question and used it as a legitimate opportunity to explain to you this reality that many Islamic callers have overlooked, even those who adopt the Book and the Sunnah. They do not realize the necessity of understanding the Book and the Sunnah as the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. It has even reached me that some of the young, ignorant people who claim to follow the Book and the Sunnah said about the Salaf: "Those are men, and we are men", as if they equated themselves with the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), about whom he said, (peace and blessings be upon him), in the authentic hadith:Sunan Abi Dawud 4658Sahih (Al-Albani). They have either ignored or disregarded this hadith and said, "We are men and they are men." Here comes
"And the calf of the milk, if it is caught by a horn, *** it cannot withstand the charge of the wild bulls"
In conclusion, I remind you of that hadith, without reciting it in full, which is his saying, (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:1232. It is as if a questioner said, "So what should we do, O Messenger of Allah?" He answered without being asked: Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i). He did not say here, "So hold fast to my Sunnah," and that is enough. Rather, he conjoined to it this phrase: , as an addition. And "every misguidance is in the Fire" is in the well-known hadith of Jabir ibn Abdullah, and it is in Sunan al-Nasa'i with a sound chain.

And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.

ويتبع غير سبيل المؤمنينThe Jews divided into seventy-one sects, and the Christians divided into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will divide into seventy-three sects, all in the Fire except one. We said, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "It is the Jama'ah (the community)."
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
