The Shaykh’s advice on the necessity of receiving the Book and the Sunnah in light of the understanding of the righteous predecessors.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomsoever He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]

As for what follows: The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, every innovation is a religious innovation, every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. Furthermore, I have nothing to offer you except that I praise Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) for gathering us with brothers who are physically far from us but whose hearts are close to us, because of the call to the truth to which Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) guided us, and which united our words around it, namely the call to follow the Book and the Sunnah. After Allah (Mighty and Majestic) guided us to Islam in general, the greatest of blessings is that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) guided us to understand Islam based on the Book and the Sunnah. This foundation is the guarantee that Muslims will not deviate to the right or the left, and that they will be on the guidance of their Lord in every time and every place, as long as they hold fast to the guidance of the Book and the Sunnah. This is to affirm the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
I have left behind you two matters; you will not go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. And they will not separate until they come to me at the Pool.
I do not wish to prolong my speech on this matter, for I believe you do not need such words. However, I wish to direct my speech, or perhaps to circle around, a matter that may be hidden from many of those who participate with us in this call—the call to the truth, namely the Book and the Sunnah. It may be hidden from many of those who participate with us in this call the reality that the Book and the Sunnah affirm and draw attention to the necessity of holding fast to it, which is: "The necessity of understanding the Book and the Sunnah according to the methodology of our righteous predecessors (may Allah be pleased with them)." This is the prize: that our understanding of the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) be in accordance with what the righteous predecessors were upon. This is because we are in a time in which many Islamic groups have awakened from a deep slumber and severe heedlessness regarding the necessity of relying on the Book and the Sunnah in disputed matters. When this reality and this issue became clear to them, they could not continue to insist on opposing us with our call based on the Book and the Sunnah. However, they are still far from us in our methodology, which we adhere to in our understanding of the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet, which is that the understanding of these two sources be in accordance with what the righteous predecessors were upon. This is because no one among the Islamic groups existing today on the face of the earth, nor any single one of them, can declare that their call does not rely on the Book and the Sunnah. Yet, despite this reliance, they interpret the texts of the Book and the Sunnah according to what their groupings and partisanship require, and they do not return to understanding the texts as our righteous predecessors understood them.
