The questioner : He says: O honorable Shaykh! We have, and unfortunately, a lost recommended practice, which is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead the sacrificial animals during 'Umrah. So what is your guidance for one who leaves this recommended practice?

The Shaykh : Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead the sacrificial animals during 'Umrah and Hajj. Sometimes he would send the sacrificial animals from Madinah while he was in Madinah. And this recommended practice has been abandoned by people. What appears to me is that they abandoned it because of the hardship. I mean: even the shepherds, perhaps a shepherd cannot be found to lead them from the open area or from his country to Makkah. So because of this hardship, it was abandoned. But if someone was around the Haram, meaning: in the open area which is around the Haram, and he led the sacrificial animals, then that is good. Yes.
