Explanation of the author's statement: "And the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)"
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Likewise, "and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)". Yes, we know this and believe in it, because the best of guidance in worship, character, and dealings is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). And the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is not limited; it is not limited, neither in its goodness, completeness, and order, nor in its conformity to the interests of creation, nor in the rulings of events that have occurred and continue to occur until the Day of Resurrection. For the guidance of Muhammad is complete and perfect, so it is the best of guidance. It is more guided than any other law; it is more guided than the law of the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Scrolls of Ibrahim, and all other guidance. It is more guided than the Hanbali school, the Shafi'i school, the Maliki school, the Hanafi school, the Sufi school, the Zahiri school, and others. Do you understand? If we believe that the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, do we seek a substitute for it? No, by Allah, we do not seek a substitute for it. If we sought a substitute for it, we would not believe that it is the best of guidance, because a person of sound mind never chooses the inferior over the superior.
And based on this belief, we do not contradict the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the statement of any human being, whoever he may be, even if he were the most knowledgeable of creation following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). For we do not contradict the statement of the Messenger with the statement of anyone. If a statement from Abu Bakr came to us and a statement from the Messenger of Allah came to us, we would take the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And in reality, we are following the statement of Abu Bakr, because Abu Bakr said openly in his first sermon: And it is known that contradicting the statement of the Messenger is a deviation. So if we contradict the statement of Abu Bakr for the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we are in reality agreeing with the statement of Abu Bakr. Is that not so? Yes.
Fine, but we seek an excuse for the statement of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) if we know that it is completely contrary to the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). But be careful, you may think that the statement of Abu Bakr is contrary to the statement of the Messenger, but it is not contrary to it; rather, the error is in your understanding due to your deficiency or negligence. Therefore, it is correct for you to say that the statement of Abu Bakr is contrary to the statement of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or to rush to that conclusion, because you may be claiming knowledge while sciences have been hidden from you:
"Say to the one who claims knowledge in science: *** You have known something, and things have been lost from you"
But we, but we said that as an example. We gave the example of the one closest to the truth in the Ummah, which is Abu Bakr. Because if a statement from Abu Bakr came that contradicted the statement of the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him), we would reject the statement of Abu Bakr, even though if you considered this, you would find it impossible. The issue is merely hypothetical, just to make it clear to you that anyone below Abu Bakr, if his statement contradicted the statement of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), it is even more necessary that it be discarded and not used to contradict the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Fine, on what basis did they build this belief? On what basis did they build this belief?
On the Book and the Sunnah. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nisa 4:87] Who is more truthful? This is a question meaning negation. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said while addressing the people on the pulpit: Sahih Muslim 867a And this is the reality. Therefore, you will find those who differed in guidance: either they are deficient, or they are deficient regarding the law of the Messenger, or they are excessive in it. That is, between one who is negligent and one who is strict, between one who is lax and one who is overzealous. And the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is between this and that. And success is from Allah.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
It has been mentioned that the people of the Sunnah and the community know that the truest of speech is the speech of Allah. Do they believe that as well? Yes, they believe that the truest of speech is the speech of Allah. And truth is conformity to reality. The most conforming to reality is the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), because they know that the truest of speech is the speech of Allah. And it has been mentioned to us that if there is something in perception that appears to contradict the Noble Qur'an, this returns to the deficiency of the one who perceives it or his negligence. And the reality of the matter is that there is no contradiction. Yes, fine.
It has also been mentioned that the people of the Sunnah and the community know that the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and they believe that as well. That the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. And guidance is the way and the Sunnah upon which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was. So the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is the best of guidance. There is no guidance better than his guidance, no matter how many people gather to establish laws or constitutions better than the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). They cannot find a way to do that.
And based on this belief, we do not contradict the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the statement of any human being, whoever he may be, even if he were the most knowledgeable of creation following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And in reality, we are following the statement of Abu Bakr, because Abu Bakr said openly in his first sermon:
If I deviate, correct me
