What is the ruling on shaving a girl's head in the 'Aqiqah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on shaving a girl's head?

The Shaykh : Shaving a girl's head in the 'Aqiqah?

The questioner : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh : I do not see a difference in this between her and a male, because the hadiths are general
For a boy, two sheep, and for a girl, one sheep, slaughtered on the seventh day, and his hair is shaved. عن الغلام شاتان وعن الجارية شاة واحدة تذبح يوم سابعه ويحلق شعره
as in some narrations, so there is nothing, and we have not found from the Salaf anything specifying that this hadith is for males only, excluding females.

The questioner : I think Ibn al-Qayyim made a distinction.

The Shaykh : It is possible.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : It is possible, but we ask: what is the evidence for the specification?

The questioner : The generality.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ...
The Shaykh: The generality of what?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : But this issue is specific; this is in the 'Aqiqah—(peace and mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you)—we follow the generality there, so we do not say that in Hajj it is not permissible for a woman to shave her head, but here there is a specific ruling, which is the 'Aqiqah for the newborn, whether male or female.
