The Ruling on the Sacrifice for a Newborn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 4861 )
Q1: Is the sacrifice for a newborn obligatory or a recommended practice, and if a man is negligent in performing it for his child while he is able to do so, is he sinful, and what is the period within which it must be completed, and is it permissible to delay it for two months or one month, whether for an excuse or without one, and then perform it?
A1: The sacrifice for a newborn is a confirmed recommended practice: two sheep for a boy, each of which is sufficient as a festival sacrifice, and one sheep for a girl. It is slaughtered on the seventh day, and if it is delayed beyond the seventh day, it is permissible to slaughter it at any time, and one is not sinful for delaying it, though it is better to perform it as soon as possible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
