Spending the vacation in forbidden travel.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Some people spend their vacation in lands of disbelief or in lands where morals are destroyed, may Allah grant us safety! They travel with their families and children to lands of disbelief, lands where the adhan is not heard and congregational prayer is not established. Instead, there are only the bells of the Christians and the trumpets of the Jews. They take their children, and the child absorbs and takes in what he sees and hears, and it remains in his heart. Then what? Great expenditure on this trip goes into whose pockets? Into the pockets of your enemies, into the pockets of the enemies of Allah, into the pockets of those who support the Jews. It raises their morale—I mean the disbelievers—and raises their economy, and it is a source of pride for them that people come to their lands. A person should be ashamed of this in terms of his manliness before he even looks at his religion. If someone were to say that this trip is forbidden, his statement would not be far off, because of the waste of time, the spending of money, and the defect in morals and manliness. There are other lands that are not lands of disbelief, but they contain types of trials and evils. They contain types of trials and evils that a person sees while he is in no need of them, so it is as if this person is using the provision of Allah to commit His disobedience. Therefore, as advice for the sake of Allah the Mighty and Majestic and to clear one’s conscience, I advise my Muslim brothers not to travel to these lands. And I say: Praise be to Allah, our lands have permissible forms of entertainment. I do not mean by entertainment the forbidden entertainment, such as songs and music and the like. We do not approve of that. Nor do we permit anyone to witness it. But there are permissible things by which a person can amuse himself for a period of time. Some people spend their vacation in commercial work. For example, a student may have a father who deals in trade, so he helps his father and benefits and gains. Some people spend their vacation in plowing. If his father is a farmer, he helps his father in farming. All of this is good. So the important thing is that my advice to my Muslim brothers is: to utilize this vacation in what benefits them in this world or in the Hereafter, or in both. I say this to complete the division, otherwise, what benefits in the Hereafter benefits in this world. Pay attention, my brother! I said: in what is beneficial in this world, or beneficial in the Hereafter, or beneficial in both. I said this to complete the division. Otherwise, what benefits in the Hereafter benefits in this world, because what benefits in the Hereafter means that you have acquired time and profited from time. Those who do not benefit in the Hereafter from their worldly life, did they lose or did they not lose? They lost, by Allah. Their lives were wasted; they did not benefit from the world with anything. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . Meaning: regret. How did it pass us by? Every moment that passes you in which you did not benefit in the Hereafter is a loss. But usually, it may be a sin, or it may not be a sin. It is upon you, my brother, to seize the opportunity as long as you are in the time of respite. Utilize this vacation in what benefits and leave what harms. And if you are among the chosen, leave idle talk, as Allah the Mighty and Majestic said regarding the servants of Allah who walk upon the earth with humility. He said: [Al-Furqan 25:72] complete [Al-Furqan 25:72] it is what contains no sin, meaning: they pass by without being harmed, rather they are safe from wasting time.
I ask Allah for us and for you success in what He loves in this world and the Hereafter, and that He make our lives in our best deeds, and that He grant us from Him mercy, for He is the Bestower of gifts. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
A group of people did not sit in a gathering in which they did not remember Allah and did not send blessings upon their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except that it would be a burden upon them
ما جلس قومٌ مجلساً لم يذكروا الله فيه ولم يصلوا على نبيهم صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم إلا كان عليهم ترةburden
ترةdo not testify to falsehood
لا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَand when they pass near ill speech
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِاللَّغْوِThey pass by with dignity
مَرُّوا كِرَاماًI ask Allah for us and for you success in what He loves in this world and the Hereafter, and that He make our lives in our best deeds, and that He grant us from Him mercy, for He is the Bestower of gifts. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
