Discussion of what pertains to the vacation.

The Shaykh : As for what pertains to the vacation, it is customary that people differ in their approaches depending on the length of the break. Some go to Makkah and al-Madinah, performing the lesser pilgrimage (‘Umrah) and visiting the Prophet’s Mosque, greeting the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at his grave, as well as al-Baqi‘, the Mosque of Quba, and the martyrs of Uhud. They thereby obtain much good, along with rest and enjoyment, for travel today, praise be to Allah, is a pleasure and a recreation, especially if this warmth continues, as it will be easy. Others go to other countries, but it is a journey of good; they go to visit relatives, or friends who have a right upon them, or to get to know the brothers there in other countries, and the scholars and students of knowledge therein. This is also much good, and it involves recreation and enjoyment. Some people go to the desert and camp there, and these are also diverse groups. However, some municipalities have adopted a good and beneficial project in gathering people and moving among them, and in distributing useful tapes or small useful booklets, and in bringing in lecturers who benefit those who gather around them. This is also much good, involving pleasure for the soul, recreation, and good. Some people go out to the desert, away from this gathering, and do what Allah wills of forbidden amusement, forbidden songs, and actions of which the least we can say is that they are a waste of time. Perhaps they also carry this destructive device in this satellite dish to watch it night and day, so that they have lost their religion and their worldly life. They have lost their religion through the deviation and sliding behind these views they watch via this dish, and they have lost their worldly life through the expenses they spend on these views and these sights. Some people stay in the city, visiting their brothers, helping their father with his affairs and tasks, and this is also good. Some people devote this vacation to memorizing the Book of Allah, or what Allah wills of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and this is good. The important thing is that people have different methodologies in this vacation, but the best of people is the one who utilizes it in a beneficial matter, either in his religion or in his worldly life, and the worst of people is the one who utilizes it in a harmful matter, either in his religion or in his worldly life. And between these, the vacation may be wasted for him; even if he did not suffer harm, he suffered from the loss of perfection and the loss of benefits and utilities. And on this occasion, I direct a word to the guardians of the youth, especially the younger ones, to pay attention to how these youth spend this vacation, because the younger youth need a guide, a supervisor, and care. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the man: . And I ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) to help us all to fulfill the trust, and to make us among those who do what pleases Him in this worldly life. Indeed, He is capable of all things. Now, to the questions, and perhaps they will contain more than what we said about this topic.
