The authenticity of Ibn 'Abbas's hadith: "Whoever leaves a mandatory act of worship must offer a blood sacrifice"? Does it have the ruling of being attributed to the Prophet? And what is its meaning?

Al-Hawini: The hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father): "Whoever leaves an act of worship, let him shed a blood sacrifice." What is the authenticity of this hadith? Does it have the ruling of being attributed to the Prophet? And what is intended by the word "act of worship"?

The Shaykh : As for its authenticity, if by "hadith" we mean what you stated in your question, namely that it is a report stopping at a Companion, then it is valid in its chain of narration as a report from Ibn 'Abbas, stopping at him. If it is a report stopping at a Companion, then we should look to see if there is anything in the reports attributed to the Prophet that contradicts it, even in some of its parts. This will allow us to decide whether to adopt this report or not. We found in "Sahih al-Bukhari" and other sources the story of that Bedouin whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw performing the talbiyah for 'Umrah, wearing a stitched garment and anointed with perfume. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
Remove this stitched garment from you, and do in your 'Umrah what you do in your Hajj. انزع عنك جبَّتك هذه ، واصنع في عمرتك ما تصنع في حجَّتك
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order him to offer a blood sacrifice, even though many scholars today impose such a blood sacrifice for such a lapse, which is wearing one's regular clothes or anointing oneself with perfume after entering the state of ihram. When we found that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not obligate him to do any of the things implied by the report of Ibn 'Abbas, we said that we are free from the obligation to act upon this report, as long as the hadith in al-Bukhari indicates that nothing of a blood sacrifice is required of the ignorant person or the one who errs in one of the rites of Hajj. Especially since I have practically observed in the pilgrimages that Allah has allowed me to perform in many past years that it is rare for a pilgrim to return without being burdened with blood sacrifices, because few escape committing some of the errors for which they are judged to be required to offer a blood sacrifice. Therefore, we say that we are not obligated to act upon this report of Ibn 'Abbas.
Yes.
