Al-Hawini: Is it permissible for a pilgrim to go to Jeddah and spend some time there, then return to Mina to stay overnight?

The Shaykh : How did you say?
Al-Hawini: Is it permissible for a pilgrim to go to Jeddah and spend some time there, then return to Mina to stay overnight?

The Shaykh : It is permissible, but on the condition that he does not make it a habit, or go down to Jeddah for trade, or something similar. The pilgrim should remember that he is in obedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and this may be once in a lifetime, or it may be repeated for some people. However, it should not be that this worship is repeated as a routine matter—as they say today—so that this worship has no effect on this pilgrim’s heart, and his mind and attention are in his goods and his trade. Therefore, he needs to go out from Mina, for example, to attend to some of his commercial interests. This is what we see as permissible. As for if an incidental matter arises that has no relation to his worldly affairs, then at that time we say: there is no harm in that.
