Is there zakah in jewelry? And how is it paid and how is it given out?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding jewelry, is there zakah in it? And how is the zakah paid and given out on it?

The Shaykh : Regarding the zakah on jewelry, there are two well-known opinions among the scholars. Some of them make zakah obligatory on women's jewelry, and some of them do not make it obligatory. The correct opinion is the one that makes it obligatory; the correct opinion is the one that makes it obligatory. This is because there are authentic hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stating that he saw a woman with a ring on her hand. I do not remember now whether it was of silver or gold. He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do you pay its zakah? أتُخرجين زكاته ؟
. She said: No. He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
A brand of fire جمرة من نار
. This is an explicit statement of the obligation to pay zakah on women's jewelry. As for the method of payment: the jewelry on a woman's hand may not reach the nisab, or it may reach the nisab. If it reaches the nisab, this ring is appraised: what is its price? The nisab and a half, so two and a half percent is paid out, and one and a quarter percent for the second half. As for if it does not reach the nisab: in this case, the woman looks at the money she has, whether it is gold or silver, and she adds the value of the jewelry to the value of the gold or silver she has. If the total of that reaches the nisab, then zakah is obligatory; otherwise, it is not.

The questioner : If Allah wills, we will suffice with this much—if Allah wills—...

The Shaykh : Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no deity but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.

The questioner : In any case, in many of these questions, he has answered themThe Shaykh : on other occasions, ... in a single cassette, so whoever wishes should refer to it.
