What is the simplified book on the principles of jurisprudence that you recommend?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: What is the simplified book on the principles of jurisprudence that you recommend?

The Shaykh : By Allah, the answer varies here; because there is no book that possesses all the qualities. If we want a book on the science of usul al-fiqh (the principles of jurisprudence) that is accompanied by evidence, this science is, in reality, the one most in need of being accompanied by evidence. That is because the rulings of the Shari'ah are built upon it. If there is a rule that has no Shari'ah evidence, and we build many issues upon it, then the matter is not sound; because what is built on a weak foundation is weak, and what is built on a defective foundation is defective. So, if we want a book on the principles of jurisprudence accompanied by Shari'ah evidence, the best I know in that regard is the book "Ihkam al-Ihkam fi Usul al-Ahkam" by Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi, who is well known. However, if we want a book on the principles of jurisprudence that is simplified and clarified, but does not address mentioning the evidence that makes one opinion stronger than another, then the books of some of the later scholars, especially the Azharis, provide this... and this is the condition. So, for example, "Usul al-Fiqh" by 'Abd al-Wahhab Khalaf. But as I told you, in terms of evidence, I do not prefer any book over the book of Ibn Hazm.
