The questioner: His EminenceThe Shaykh- May Allah preserve you - , what is the authenticity of the statement attributed to some of the Companions in their saying: "If you are not obeyed in your family or your people, then do as they do"?

The Shaykh: It is extreme foolishness. Our Lord says:
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other الرِّجَالُ قَوَّامُونَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ
[An-Nisa 4:34]
, and the Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The imam who is over the people is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock; a man is a shepherd in charge of the inhabitants of his household and he is responsible for his flock كلُّكم راعٍ وكلُّكم مسؤولٌ عن رعيَّته ، والرجل راعٍ وهو مسؤولٌ عن رعيَّته
