Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this surah that we recited tonight, Allah the Exalted said:
Wail to those who give less than the full measure وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
"Wail" occurs frequently in the Qur'an. So what is the meaning of this word? It was said that it is the name of a valley in Hell, the name of a valley in Hell, and on this view it would be the name of a tangible thing. It was also said that it is a word of warning, so the meaning of "wail" is: a severe warning for these people. In the Qur'an:
Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
[At-Tur 52:11]
here
Wail to those who give less than the full measure وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
in the Qur'an
Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn. فَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:79]
This word occurs frequently in the Noble Qur'an, and its meaning, according to the stronger opinion, is what? That it is a word of warning by which Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, threatens those to whom it is attributed.
