The questioner: His EminenceThe Shaykh : The youth have divided into parties and groups; some of them say: calling to the oneness of Allah is the original foundation of this religion, and to it returns the creed of the Salaf, and some of them say: education and purification and the unity of the Ummah is what the Ummah needs now in this time, and some say: lifting the youth from the depths to the heights is the goal of the Ummah and the goal of Islam; so we ask for a balanced word in this area and urging and guidance toward the correct, sound methodology?

The Shaykh : In my opinion, the previous speech can be considered an answer to this question, and it is necessary to say a balanced word: that some Muslims today are concerned with, or see the importance of, calling to the oneness of Allah, and some with purification and education, and some with uniting the word, and so on. So I say: that beginning with the call to the oneness of Allah is the sunnah (recommended practice) of the prophets and messengers before; for the verses are abundant in that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) did not send a prophet except that he called his people to worship Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) alone, having no partner. And the story of Noah (peace be upon him) in the surah named after him is not far from you. But concern for the oneness of Allah does not mean turning away from the call to Islam as a whole, which is indivisible. And it is necessary that the caller, as I said recently in a blessed gathering like yours or larger, that the call to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) should be that the callers are on one level of knowledge. And we mentioned to you just now what knowledge is, and that it is the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and what our righteous Salaf were upon. So the call should be from people of knowledge, not from those who were given a little culture and then do not know, perhaps, the oneness of Allah itself in all its aspects until the understanding of the word of testimony, "There is no god but Allah," is complete. How can he be a caller when he has not been given an ample share of knowledge? So the call must first be from scholars, and then it must be comprehensive and inclusive of this Islam about which Allah said in the Qur'an:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ
[Ali 'Imran 3:19]
.
So if some people are concerned with the call to the oneness of Allah, and this is their duty, that does not mean that they do not call to every aspect of Islam. But this means that the caller must have knowledge of all, or at least most, of the doors of the Shari'ah. And the young people today, from those who claim to be callers, then they differ in the path they should take in the call. And as you heard in the question, even though this question is not very clear, because there is not much difference between one step and another. But what must be the case is that all the calls we hear the voice of in all the Islamic lands are on one word, which is that we call to Allah upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and upon the methodology of the righteous Salaf, along with urging people to strive for action more than they strive for speech. And all of this has been detailed in the previous speech, so we suffice with this word.
