There is no good religious innovation in Islam.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The subject we raise and discuss on various occasions is that there is no good religious innovation in Islam; for the many, and very many, pieces of evidence that the scholars have presented, and which we present following them, to prove that the matter is as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
, and that this hadith has not been subjected to any specification; rather, it stands in its generality and comprehensiveness. It is on the same level as his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Every intoxicant is Khamr (wine) and every Khamr is unlawful. كل مسكر خمر ، وكل خمر حرام
Sunan Ibn Majah 3390Hasan (Darussalam)
. Just as we cannot imagine a Muslim who would oppose the Messenger by saying, "Not every intoxicant is khamr, and not every khamr is forbidden"; just as we cannot imagine a Muslim saying such a thing, because it contradicts the words of the Messenger (peace be upon him); so we hope and pray that some people do not get themselves into trouble by striking at this authentic hadith in its chest; namely his saying:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
Every intoxicant is Khamr (wine) and every Khamr is unlawful. كل مسكر خمر ، وكل خمر حرام
Sunan Ibn Majah 3390Hasan (Darussalam)
. Is it conceivable that a Muslim would say, "Not every khamr is an intoxicant, and not every intoxicant is forbidden"? No.
Likewise, we want it to be inconceivable, even though not everything that is inconceivable is actually the case. Who could have conceived, about twenty years ago, seeing Muslim women, some of whom are imitating the style of the West, and some of whom claim to be wives of many prominent men who have weight in the Shari'ah and in knowledge, displaying their adornment in the manner of the first age of ignorance? Their necks, chests, and upper arms are seen, and sometimes part of their thighs. This was inconceivable, but today it has become a conceivable reality! However, it is contrary to the Shari'ah in any case. Likewise, it is inconceivable for a person to say, "Since the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
." It is inconceivable for a person to say this, especially if he is one of those who claim to be among the people of knowledge. It is inconceivable for him to say, "No, my brother, not every religious innovation is misguidance, and not every misguidance is in the Fire."
A person does not say this unless he has been overcome in his intellect, and I do not say: overcome in his affair. This is the truth. I do not wish to bring the evidence that confirms this generality and this absoluteness, such as the saying of Ibn 'Umar: "Every religious innovation is misguidance, even if people see it as good."
