Regarding the formula of seeking refuge: (from his blowing and spitting), which was reported in the prayer of tahajjud, as Ibn Kathir mentioned in his "Tafsir"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding seeking refuge in this formula:
from his blowing and spitting من همزه ونفثه
which was reported in the prayer of tahajjud, as Ibn Kathir mentioned in his "Tafsir," does it also apply outside of prayer?

The Shaykh : Not only in the [prayer], it was also reported in a general sense, and it is not limited to the prayer of qiyam.

The questioner : This is what Ibn Kathir cited in his "Tafsir."

The Shaykh : Yes, and this is what we have learned.
...

The Shaykh : But since the practice of the reciters has been established on this, we see no harm in acting upon it, although we consider the best to be what is established in the Sunnah, as I mentioned at the beginning of the discussion.

Another questioner : ... What is permissible regarding the order of
his blowing, his breathing, and his spitting همزه ونفخه ونفثه
? For example: and his spitting before his blowing; is that permissible?

The Shaykh : The narrations should be considered in this regard; it came to me, and in my opinion, there is variation in the order in the narrations; so the matter is easy.

Another questioner : The verse says:
So when you recite the Qur'an, [first] seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy]. فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
[An-Nahl 16:98]
One of the brothers mentions that this is a text from the Qur'an that is explicit?

The Shaykh : No, my brother, this is not a text regarding the manner of seeking refuge. This is like His saying, the Exalted, in many texts:
Establish prayer. أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ
; so how is the prayer performed? As came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), if there were not a clear and distinct Sunnah, this argument would be valid; one would suffice with what is understood from the apparent meaning of the verse. But since it is established in the Sunnah, the Sunnah takes precedence over the Qur'an, as the Salaf said.

Another questioner : ... .
