If a gift comes to me from people who deal in riba (usury or interest), and they have other lawful wealth, and I have not used this gift

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : four: If a gift comes to me from people who deal in riba (usury or interest)—we might say, for example, a gift—if a gift comes to me from people who deal in riba (usury or interest), and they also have other lawful wealth, and I do not like to use this gift; is it permissible for me to give it as a gift to other people?

The Shaykh : If it is permissible for you to accept it, then it is permissible for you to give it away. If it is not permissible, then it is not permissible.

The questioner : In this case, is it permissible to accept the gift?

The Shaykh : I say: First, what is the predominant nature of this giver's wealth? If the predominant part of his wealth is haram (forbidden), then accepting the gift is haram (forbidden). If the predominant part of his wealth is halal (lawful), then it is halal (lawful). However, in the first case, we see no obstacle to a righteous, God-fearing Muslim—Mighty and Majestic is He—accepting a gift from a person whose wealth is predominantly haram (forbidden), provided that his intention is not for the desire of accepting gifts, but rather as a means to establish affection between the giver and the recipient, as a means he adopts with those near and far to discuss with them the rulings of the Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law), including warning them against engaging in these riba (usury or interest)-based means. This is because it is known from his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Exchange gifts, and you will love one another. تهادوا تحابُّوا
. Therefore, a gift is a cause for achieving affection and love. So, if a gift is offered, and its origin is known to be haram (forbidden) from haram (forbidden) wealth, to a person—as we said—who is God-fearing—Mighty and Majestic is He—and his intention in accepting it is to use it as a means to advise this person, even if after some time; then I see no obstacle in that.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
