What is the meaning of the hadith: “Hold fast to the Book of Allah and my household”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I would like an explanation of the hadith on the board; it is the one in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commands holding fast to the Book of Allah first, and to his household.
I think the hadith is clear, and the issue seems to lie in the questioner’s question regarding his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
and my household وأهل بيتي
. The answer is that the household of the Messenger (peace be upon him) consists of two categories: the knowledgeable and the ignorant, or in other words, those who know the Sunnah and those who do not, those who act upon the Sunnah and those who abandon it. Every person of sense and intellect is certain that the second category is not intended in this hadith. Does “my household” mean the ignorant among them? Does it mean those who abandon acting upon the Islamic Shari'ah, such as King Hussein and his like among his fathers and grandfathers? Of course, this is not what is intended by the hadith. Rather, what is intended is the first category:
my household أهل بيتي
, meaning those who know my Sunnah and act upon it. There is no doubt that the household of the Messenger (peace be upon him), the first of them being 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), are among those from the household whom we are commanded to hold fast to their Sunnah. When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commands holding fast to the household, it is exactly as when he commands holding fast to the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, one of whom is a member of the household, namely 'Ali ibn Abi Talib. So when he (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
, he does not mean a Sunnah other than the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), but rather his Sunnah which these people transmitted, applied, and implemented.
And this hadith:
Hold fast to my Sunnah
to its end is like an explanation of His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. He (the Exalted) said:
and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. Is the path of the believers other than the path of Allah and the Messenger? Of course not. But in this verse, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) made the path of the believers a proof that this is the Shari'ah of Allah, because we do not imagine the path of the believers to be contrary to the law of the Lord of the worlds. So this is like what is said in the context of explanatory apposition:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. This is by way of explanation in this apposition; meaning, how is the opposition of Allah and the Messenger? By contradicting the path of the believers, and by following, pardon me, yes, by contradicting the path of the believers, and by following other than the path of the believers.
So when we return to the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam when he said:
and my household وأهل بيتي
, he means those who hold fast to his Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him). And this specification undoubtedly serves to exalt the household, respect them, and follow them, for they are worthy of that. So in this hadith, there is only a part of what is in the hadith:
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
in one aspect; where 'Ali is mentioned here in the hadith of the four, 'Ali is mentioned along with the rest of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. In the hadith of the household, there is an addition as well to the hadith of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs, who are the household: al-Hasan, al-Husayn, Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, Abu Ja'far al-Baqir, al-Sadiq, and so on. All of these are, of course, from the household and from the people of knowledge. We follow their guidance, and all of this is ultimately conditioned by not contradicting the Book or the Sunnah.
Yes.

The questioner : I see that you are keeping the quarter hour for rest, meaning...

The Shaykh : Yes, welcome, may Allah reward you with good, but I am afraid that the quarter hour will be extended to whatever Allah wills.

The questioner : ... meaning, here he is making the household a second source. The first source is the Book of Allah, and the second source in legislation is the household. This is what the Shi'ah say.

The Shaykh: Yes.

Another questioner: Oh, teacher.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : The brothers are saying that MuhammadEid Abbasi : I heard them talking.

The Shaykh : Yes, go ahead.

Eid Abbasi : My master, by Allah, whoever intends the sea takes the canals, the professor is present.

The Shaykh : Go ahead, my brother, let us cooperate.

Eid Abbasi: My master.

The questioner : While the professor rests.

Another questioner : Yes, go ahead, he opened the door.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, or if you have something in your mind that you want to speak about, a general guidance, for example, there is no objection. Take your freedom, or if you are answering questions, there is no objection.

Eid Abbasi : In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, and all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions. And after that.

The questioner : ... .

Eid Abbasi : The truth is, the meeting with you was very pleasant, and it instills hope in the heart of the Muslim, making him optimistic about the support of the call, if Allah wills (Mighty and Majestic).

The Shaykh : But it means that you are confused by the bad meaning that you understood.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : But if you understood it with this estimation, and that its good and evil are from Allah by His decree, do you still have a problem?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : Okay, my master.
