The Ruling on Reciting the Basmala and Seeking Refuge with Allah Audibly in the Audible Prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
There are hadiths, but they are weak and do not constitute a proof. What is established in Sahih Muslim and other sources is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
(peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" audibly. The correct Sunnah is to recite the Basmala quietly in
the prayer, as we mentioned earlier. It is reported in Sunan al-Tirmidhi from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Mughaffal that he said regarding reciting the Basmala
in the prayer before al-Fatihah: "It is a newly invented matter," meaning an innovation. And the ruling on innovation in Islam is well known, as is
the explicit statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire."

The Shaykh :
Sit down, my brother. Sit down. Is there anything else with you?

The questioner :
Professor, the one who committed the sin... he came. It would be good if you would be brief. Reciting the seeking of refuge quietly.

The Shaykh :
I did not intend to specify... Yes.
We mentioned earlier a word regarding seeking refuge and the Basmala before recitation outside of prayer. We said that if the recitation outside
of prayer is done audibly, then the seeking of refuge and the Basmala before it are also done audibly. And if the recitation is done quietly,
then both the seeking of refuge and the Basmala are also done quietly. This is outside of prayer. As for in the prayer, reciting them quietly
is always the case, whether the prayer is a quiet prayer or an audible prayer. This is established in the authentic Sunnah.
