Eid Abbasi : The hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: He entered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) upon a woman, and before her were date pits or pebbles with which she was making dhikr; so he said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3568Hasan (Darussalam). You have weakened this hadith in "Al-Da'if", except that al-Arna'ut in his takhrij for "Riyad al-Salihin" graded it as good due to the presence of a corroborating narration (shahid) in Ibn Hibban; so what is your opinion?
The Shaykh : This hadith is traced in some of my books with some detail, and I mention among them my book "Naqd al-Ta'qib al-Hathith".
Another questioner : "Al-Radd 'ala al-Ta'qib al-Hathith".
The Shaykh : "Al-Radd 'ala al-Ta'qib al-Hathith"; so whoever wishes to expand on this should refer there, and compare al-Albani's words with al-Arna'ut's words, then adopt what he is reassured by. It is not obligatory for him to follow al-Albani or al-Arna'ut blindly, but I want to draw attention to something; and that is that this story came in "Sahih Muslim" from the hadith of Juwayriyyah, one of the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there is no mention of pebbles in it, and that is what confirms that the mention of pebbles in the hadith in question is denounced (munkar) and not authentic.
And this is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Should I not inform you of what is easier for you then this
