The Shaykh opens his address with the Khutbat al-Hajah, explaining its virtue and the danger of religious innovation in the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The Shaykh : ... and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead, and whoever He leaves to mislead, no one can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. And after that:
My address on this night is to speak about some established texts in the Sunnah and some reports narrated from the earliest of this Ummah. Some people, who have no knowledge of the Book of Allah, nor of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor of what our righteous predecessors (may Allah be pleased with them all) were upon, consider these texts to be doubts that arise in their minds regarding some of the decisive texts in the Book and the Sunnah. These texts affirm the general principle that every religious innovation is misguidance. This is the general principle that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established in more than one hadith. Sufficient for us in this is this Khutbat al-Hajah that we have presented before this address, following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who taught it to his Companions to present it before their sermons, teachings, and admonitions. The scholars of jurisprudence named it the "Khutbat al-Hajah." In it is that blessed phrase, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to repeat this general principle to the people on various occasions, the most important of which was the Friday sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would open the Friday sermon and others with this khutbah, which you know is called the Khutbat al-Hajah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would repeat it and deliver it before his sermons (peace be upon him). This was nothing but a reminder from him to his Ummah: those who began listening to his speech and hearing his hadiths directly, and then those who came after him (peace and blessings be upon him) and did not hear his speech directly, but rather it was transmitted by the later generations from the earlier ones through the authentic chains of narration known to the imams of the Sunnah.
He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to repeat in his sermons, as we mentioned, this phrase:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
, which in its meaning and comprehensive scope covers every religious innovation that occurred after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his (peace and blessings be upon him) description of it as misguidance,
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
. Then the hadiths came one after another, supporting one another, and each taking hold of the others, all revolving around this general principle,
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
.
