Explanation of the Hadith of Ibn 'Umar - may Allah be pleased with them both - who said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And from Ibn 'Umar - may Allah be pleased with them both - who said: The Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings be upon him - made an appointment with Jibril - peace be upon him - to come to him, but he delayed - meaning: he was late - until it became difficult for the Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings be upon him, so he went out. Jibril met him, and he complained to him, so he said:
we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image إنَّا لا نَدخُل بيتًا فيهِ كلبٌ ولا صُورَةٌ
Sunan Ibn Majah 3651
. Al-Bukhari narrated it. "Ratha" is with the thaa thulthah, not hamza, - meaning it is not "ra'atha", but rather "ratha" -; that is: he was slow.
This hadith contains an important benefit that clarifies for us the reason for the saying of the Messenger - may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him - in this hadith:
Angels do not enter a house in which there is a picture لا تدخل الملائكة بيتًا فيه صورة أو كلب
Sahih Muslim 2106e
. He said that in response to Jibril, on the occasion that he had made an appointment with the Messenger - may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him - and he delayed; that is: he was late and slow. In some narrations, the Messenger - peace be upon him - showed distress, sadness, and agitation on his face, so some of his wives asked him, and he said: Jibril made an appointment with me - meaning: he was late - then Jibril quickly appeared outside the house, outside the room, so the Messenger - may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him - hastened to him, and Jibril - peace be upon him - said to him: إنا - معشر الملائكة - لا ندخل بيتًا فيه كلبٌ أو صورة for we Angels do not enter a house in which there are imagesSunan an-Nasa'i 5365. The image that was in the house was not an idol, and in the technical sense today, a statue, but rather it was an image on a curtain, as will come in some narrations. In that is clear evidence, like the evidence of the previous hadith of 'Aishah in the last lesson, that the warning against making images and the clarification, as in this hadith, that the angels do not enter a house in which there is an image, means in this hadith and that one the image, even if it has no shadow; that is: the image drawn on clothes and on paper. It is not intended, as some moderns imagine, following some of the predecessors who did not encompass the hadiths that came in this chapter, and I mean they did not encompass the previous ones. As for the contemporaries today, they know such hadiths, but they go around them and devise various tricks and interpretations, as some of that will be mentioned.
So, this image that prevents the angels from entering is an image that has no shadow and is not three-dimensional, but rather it is drawn on the curtain. And likewise in the previous hadith of 'Aishah in the last lesson, as we said: إن الذين يصوِّرون هذه الصور يُعذَّبون يوم القيامة ، ويُقال لهم : أحيُوا ما خَلَقْتُم The makers of these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them: 'Bring to life that which you have created.'Sunan an-Nasa'i 5362. Or as he - peace be upon him - said, and he pointed to the image that was on the curtain.
