Discussion of Jibril and the account of the hadith of Jibril in which he asked about Islam, faith, excellence in worship, and the Hour.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Among those whom we have taught by their specific identities, that is, by their names, are angels known by their names. Please proceed.
The student: Jibril (peace be upon him)

The Shaykh : Well done. Jibril (peace be upon him). Jibril was entrusted by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with the revelation. He described him as a noble messenger, one possessing strength, and one who is trustworthy. So He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
[Al-Haqqah 69:40]
This refers to the Qur'an.
a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger (20) [Who is] possessed of power
[At-Takwir 81:19-20]
Meaning one who possesses strength.
with the Owner of the Throne
[At-Takwir 81:20]
And He is Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Firmly established مكين
Meaning he has a high status and rank with Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). He described him as having a beautiful form and said:
One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form
[An-Najm 53:6]
The scholars said: "Murrat means a beautiful form" Meaning that he (peace be upon him) has a beautiful form. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him twice in the form in which Allah created him. Listen, my brother, to this: he has six hundred wings. Allahu Akbar. He filled the horizon. He saw him once on earth, in the cave of Hira, and he saw him once in the sky at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, in this form, with six hundred wings, filling the horizon, that is, filling the horizon. This is great. The greatness of the created being indicates what? It indicates the greatness of the Creator (Exalted and Majestic is He). This is Jibril, the one in charge of the revelation, delivering it to the messengers whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) sends. Jibril may come in the form of a human being, like?
The student: The hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab

The Shaykh : The hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab
The student: In which he explained Islam, faith, and excellence in worship

The Shaykh : Perfect. Rest a moment. The hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
Whilst we were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) one day, a man came to us whose garment was exceedingly white
Musnad Ahmad 367, 368Lts isnad is Sahih, Muslim (8)
So he was wearing clothes.
Intensely black in his hair
So he had hair.
we did not see any signs of travel on him, and none of us knew who he was
Musnad Ahmad 367, 368Lts isnad is Sahih, Muslim (8)
So he was not a strange traveler, and yet we did not recognize him. He sat down with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in the manner of a well-mannered person.
resting his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs. He said: O Muhammad, tell me about Islam
Musnad Ahmad 367, 368Lts isnad is Sahih, Muslim (8)
He did not say "O Messenger of Allah" in order to appear as a Bedouin, and the Bedouins call the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) by his name. So he asked him about four things: he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about four things. Count them for us. Please proceed.
The student: Islam, faith, excellence in worship, and the Hour

The Shaykh : Perfect. About Islam, faith, excellence in worship, and the Hour. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed him about Islam, faith, and excellence in worship. As for the Hour, he said:
The one who is asked knows no more than the one who asks
Mishkat al-Masabih 741
Meaning I do not know it, just as you do not know it. With whom is its knowledge?
The student: With Allah

The Shaykh : With Allah. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
People ask you concerning the Hour. Say," Knowledge of it is only with Allah. And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."
[Al-Ahzab 33:63]
And in the other verse:
Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. قل إنما علمها عند ربي لا يجليها لوقتها إلا هو
[Al-A'raf 7:187]
So when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared that he did not know it, he said:
Inform me about its signs
Meaning about its signs. So he informed him, then he departed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do you know who the questioner is? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best.
Because no trace of travel was seen on him, and the Companions did not recognize him. Allah and His Messenger know best. He said:
This is Jibril who has come to you to teach you your religion.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 24:120
So it is possible for the angel to take on the form of a human being, as in this hadith.
