Explanation of the rule: "Every means that leads to shirk (associating partners with Allah) or a forbidden act is itself forbidden."

The Shaykh : And shirk (associating partners with Allah) does not come upon nations as a sudden outbreak; rather, any evil does not begin with its most severe or dangerous aspect, but rather with its most trivial and lowest aspect, as it is said: "Most of the Fire comes from the smallest sparks." Therefore, we find that the Islamic Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law) is concerned with prohibiting every means that may lead to a forbidden matter. From this perspective, when a person turns to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in supplication, he does not mention any intermediaries between him and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) from among the people. To affirm this guidance and this meaning, our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) said, when that Bedouin came to ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, is our Lord near so that we should speak to Him, or far so that we should call out to Him?" He said (Glorified and Exalted is He): [Al-Baqarah 2:186].

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
