Explanation of the hadith of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And the hadith that follows it—which is also authentic—clarifies what concerns the patient who is unable to perform worship. It is the hadith of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr; in the copy here it is written as 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, which is an error, and the correct name is 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
There is no one among the people who is struck with a calamity in his body except that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commands the angels who guard him and says: Write for My servant, in every day and night, what he used to do of good while he was in My captivity—or My restraint.
; what was in my captivity and in the illness with which I was afflicted. This confirms the meaning that came in the previous hadith with some detail, and it is clear and evident, requiring no commentary.
He says in its tracing: It was narrated by Ahmad, and the wording is his, and by al-Hakim, who said: Authentic according to their conditions. In a narration from Ahmad, it is said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a servant of God is accustomed to worship Him in a good manner, then becomes ill, the angel who is entrusted with him is told to record for him actions equivalent to those which he did when he was well till God sets him free from his illness or takes him in
Mishkat al-Masabih 1559
. It was said to the angel assigned to him: Write for him the same as his righteous deeds that he used to practice and was unable to perform.
actions equivalent to those which he did when he was well
Mishkat al-Masabih 1559
; meaning: if he is healthy and not sick,
Write for him the reward of that work which he was unable to perform until I release him
; meaning until I make him healthy and cure him. If he returns to health and soundness and continues the previous work, it is written for him as well. But if he abandons it, it is not written. Rather, his previous work is written for him as long as he is in the captivity of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and in his captivity and illness with which He afflicted him. Thus says the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
When a servant of God is accustomed to worship Him in a good manner, then becomes ill, the angel who is entrusted with him is told to record for him actions equivalent to those which he did when he was well till God sets him free from his illness or takes him in
Mishkat al-Masabih 1559
; meaning: I gather him and return him; meaning: I take him and cause him to die. The chain of this narration is good.
He explained his saying:
I restrain him to Myself
with a kaf, then a fa, then a doubled ta above; its meaning is: I gather him to Me and take him.
