The Ruling on the Invocation of Allah’s Name in Ablution

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: Is the invocation of Allah’s name in ablution obligatory?

Whoever authenticates the hadith regarding it, which is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “There is no ablution for one who does not mention the name of Allah over it,” then it becomes obligatory, and the ablution is not valid without it. And whoever does not authenticate it does not consider the invocation obligatory. Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said about this hadith: Nothing is established in this chapter. If nothing is established in it, then the original state is that the conscience is free from blame. However, it is better to invoke the name of Allah as a precaution. If one leaves off the invocation, even intentionally, his ablution is valid.
