The ruling on one who omits the invocation in ablution out of forgetfulness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I performed ablution and did not remember that I had not said the invocation until after I had finished washing my hands. Every time I remembered, I repeated it again. What is the ruling on this?

A: The majority of scholars have held that ablution is valid without the invocation, while some scholars have held that the invocation is obligatory with knowledge and remembrance; for it was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah is validلا وضوء لمن لم يذكر اسم الله عليه
Sunan Abi Dawud 102Sahih Maqtu' (Al-Albani)
However, if one omits it out of forgetfulness or ignorance, his ablution is valid, and he is not required to repeat it, even if we hold that the invocation is obligatory; because he is excused by ignorance and forgetfulness. The evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
[al-Baqarah: 286] And it is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): (That Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has accepted this supplication).
And by this you know that if you forget the invocation at the beginning of the ablution and then remember it in the middle of it, you should say the invocation, and you are not required to start over from the beginning; because you are excused by forgetfulness.
May Allah guide them all.
