The ruling on selling books distributed by government agencies such as media or ifta

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Your Eminence! What is the ruling on selling books that are distributed by some government agencies, such as media or ifta, in order to purchase more beneficial books that are more useful than them? The Shaykh: It appears to me that the distribution of books by these agencies is considered a gift. If it is a gift, it becomes the property of the recipient, and he may dispose of it as he wishes: by using it, selling it, giving it away, or endowing it. It is his property, and if he sees that selling it to buy something better is better, then that is better.

The questioner: An important point—Shaykh—in
these books for a school that we received as a gift from the ministry for the school, we found some observations, especially in the storybooks, or also the books also speak about the Shi'ah. Do we have the right to destroy them? The Shaykh: In any case, if you received them for the school, they belong to the school, and you may sell them to purchase something more beneficial than them, if the regulations grant you that authority,And as for if they are harmful and contain deviant ideas: innovations, misguidance; so it is obligatory for you to withhold them and to inform the agencies that granted them to you of this, so that they do not distribute them to others as well,Allah the Exalted said:
cooperate in righteousness and pietyوَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى
