O my brothers: Do you know the profound wisdom of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in the succession of night and day, and of months and years? And among that is what He indicated in His saying:
And it is He who has made the night and the day in successionوَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً
[Al-Furqan:62] meaning: one succeeds the other
for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude.لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُوراً
[Al-Furqan:62] . Thus, a person remembers whenever a new day and night arrive; he remembers and performs righteous deeds, and this renewal brings him a vitality he feels in himself and a comfort he feels in his heart, through the renewal of time upon him and the succession of night and day. The same applies to years and months. If the merchants of this world calculate what they have gained in the year at its end, then it is befitting for the merchant of the Hereafter—and the trade of the Hereafter is greater, better, and more lasting—to hold himself accountable for what has passed of his year and to renew his vitality for the new year he is about to enter. I say this while considering myself the most negligent of people, but I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him.
