The Ruling on Instruments of Amusement and Musical Instruments in Weddings and Festivals

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
You mentioned, O Shaykh, in the booklet on the ruling of the hand drum and its conditions, that some people understood from it that it is permissible for men, to the extent that some young men who recently committed themselves to the religion understood this?!The Shaykh: I say that whoever understood that from it should ask me, and I will inform him.

The questioner: In the 'ardha, O Shaykh, I do not think that men mix with women? The Shaykh: The 'ardha is permissible; because it is during the days of the festival; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted 'A'ishah to look at the Abyssinians as they were playing in the mosque.

The questioner: And if there is a drum and a flute in it?The Shaykh: The drum and the flute are not permissible, neither in the wedding nor in the days of the festival nor in any other occasion.

The questioner: In some of our regions in the south, they do not perform the 'ardha except with the drum and the flute.

The Shaykh: This is not permissible; because the original ruling regarding instruments of amusement and musical instruments is prohibition, so one is restricted to what the Sunnah brought, which is the hand drum.

The questioner: Is the hand drum permissible for men in the 'ardha? The Shaykh: There is nothing wrong with it; because a dispensation is granted for amusement in the days of the festival.
