Advice for the Jama'at al-Da'wah wa al-Tabligh

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is the Da'wah of Tabligh in Pakistan a genuine da'wah, and do you encourage us to go to Pakistan despite what some people say: that this is not correct and contains a doubt, and we want you to guide us to what is in the good?

First: Those who call themselves the Jama'at al-Tabligh are those who go to Pakistan and other places to call people to Allah. We do not accuse them of bad intentions or purposes, and they do not intend anything but good by going, without a doubt. However, this going has become a cause and a means for disparaging this group. And they have come to say: They go there to take knowledge and faith from people there, whereas we have, praise be to Allah, people who are more knowledgeable than them and stronger in faith. Moreover, there is a doubt regarding these people because they built their foundations on principles other than those on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) built the religion. They built their foundations on six matters. Who will read them for us? 1- Realizing that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
2- Prayer with humility and submission.
3- Knowledge along with dhikr.
4- Honoring the Muslims.
5- Correcting the intention.
6- Calling to Allah and going out in His path.
If they had built this matter on what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) built it upon, it would have been better for them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Islam is built on five: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House of Allah the Sacred) And I do not think anyone has the slightest doubt in their heart that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most knowledgeable of creation about what Islam is built upon, that he is the most sincere of creation, and that he is the most eloquent of creation. And he said: (Faith is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and the divine decree, its good and its evil) And he said: (Ihsan is that you worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then He sees you) .
Therefore, I advise my brothers from the people of Tabligh, and I repeat the advice to them not to go to Pakistan first: to protect their honor; because many of the brothers, when we praise the Jama'at al-Tabligh,And We said: they have an influence that no one else has achieved, and their influence is clear. How many have been guided by their hands, how many open sinners have obeyed by their hands, and indeed, how many disbelievers have believed by their hands. They said: These people have strengths and weaknesses, and among the things they make a cause for disparagement is their travel to Pakistan.
So I repeat my advice to my brothers who are in the Peninsula not to go to Pakistan, and that some of them gather with others, praise be to Allah, in Makkah for Hajj or 'Umrah, in Ramadan or outside Ramadan. As for going to a land where the truth of what they are upon is confused, and who are directing the affairs there, this is not permissible.

Another thing I advise our brothers of the Jama'at al-Tabligh is: to strive for knowledge and to learn as much as they can. To the extent that they strive in calling to Allah, connecting with people, visiting them, and calling them to the truth, may Allah reward them with good and benefit through them.We say: To that extent, they must learn. They should attend the gatherings of scholars whom Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has granted knowledge and teaching, even if it is once a week, so that they may know something of what they are ignorant of, which is much. Because this is also what people hold against them, that they are far from knowledge. And if some of them say: They do not like discussion in knowledge at all, but they like things to proceed as they are. This is undoubtedly a severe deficiency and a point of criticism against the Jama'at al-Tabligh. If they also strived for knowledge, it would be better.
Knowledge is not only in books of virtues. Books of virtues increase faith and strengthen it, but they are not knowledge itself. It is necessary to know the rulings as we know the softeners that soften the hearts. This is also what is held against them.
As for the issue of limiting the going out to three days, or four days, or a month, or two months, I do not hold this against the Jama'at al-Tabligh because this may be from the category of means. That is, they see that limiting the duration is a means for reforming the man who goes out with them. And means do not have a specific Shari'ah limit. So whatever leads to the objective is an objective, as long as it is not specifically prohibited. If it is specifically prohibited, we do not approach it.

If someone were to say: I want to call a person to Islam through singing and music because he is delighted by it and finds comfort in it, and perhaps this will be an attraction for him. If I call him through music and singing, do we permit him that? No.
It is absolutely not permissible. But if it is a means that has not been prohibited and has an effect, then there is no harm in it. Means are not objectives. It is not necessary for the Shari'ah to specify every means individually, saying: this is permissible and this is not permissible, because means are innumerable and have no limit. So whatever is a means to good is good.

Therefore, I repeat once again: I want my brothers from the Jama'at al-Tabligh to strive to receive knowledge and read the books of those they trust in their knowledge and religion, so that they may benefit from them. As for merely limiting themselves to softeners that soften the hearts, this is undoubtedly good, but it is not sufficient for the culture of the Muslim.
