The Criterion for the Use of Hides

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! What is the criterion for the use of hides, and what is permissible and what is forbidden in that regard?
It is well known that the hides in the market are tanned hides. Tanned hides are considered pure by many scholars, even if they come from a ritually impure animal. However, the correct view is that they are not pure if they come from a ritually impure animal; because that which is impure in itself does not become pure even if washed with seawater. As for hides that come from an animal whose meat is permissible to eat, but you do not know whether they are from an animal slaughtered according to Islamic law or from a carrion, do not worry about it; because even if they were from carrion or from an animal slaughtered in a manner other than the Islamic way, they become pure once tanned, like some furs. For example, a lining made from the hides of young sheep. We say: Wear it, and there is no blame on you, even if it is assumed to be from carrion or from an animal slaughtered in a non-legitimate manner; because when it is tanned, it becomes pure, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Any hide that is tanned becomes pure) And a sheep was brought to Maimunah, which they had dragged along as carrion,So he said: (Did you not take its hide? They said: O Messenger of Allah! It is carrion. He said: If the hide is tanned, it becomes pure) .
