Fatwa number ( 15703 )
Q: What is the ruling on the people who sacrifice giving or donating or presenting the skins of their sacrificial animals to any reform committee or body in each district to take charge of benefiting from them? I mean benefiting from their price by selling them to a Muslim leather merchant and spending their value on things like prayer halls and mosques, or Qur'an schools, or Islamic kindergartens, or paying the wages of mosque workers, or buying a carpet or cleaning supplies, or fencing in graveyards, or other reform purposes that bring benefit to the general Muslim community... etc.?
A: It is a recommended practice (sunnah) to give the skins of sacrificial animals and pilgrimage offerings in charity, as in the hadith of Ali
ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to take charge of his sacrificial camel, to give its meat, skins, and saddle in charity, and not to give the butcher anything from it." He said:Sunan Abi Dawud 1769 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. It is the same whether the recipient is a specific individual or an entity with legal personality that has its own lawful expenditures. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
