Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (What did his wealth or what he earned avail him)]
Allah the Exalted said: [al-Masad:2] meaning: from Allah anything,And his statement: [al-Masad:2] It was said: The meaning is what he earned in the form of children,As if he said: What did his wealth and his children avail him,As the saying of Noah: [Nuh:21] So they made his saying: [al-Masad:2] mean by that the children, and they supported this opinion with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (The best of what you eat is from your own earnings, and your children are from your earnings) .
And the correct view is: That the verse is more general than this, and that the verse includes the children, and includes the earned wealth that is not in his hand now, and includes what he earned in the form of honor and status, everything he earned that increases his honor and prestige, it does not avail him anything.
Allah the Exalted said:
His wealth did not avail him.
مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُ مَالُهُAnd what he earned.
وَمَا كَسَبَand followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.
وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَاراًAnd what he earned.
وَمَا كَسَبَAnd the correct view is: That the verse is more general than this, and that the verse includes the children, and includes the earned wealth that is not in his hand now, and includes what he earned in the form of honor and status, everything he earned that increases his honor and prestige, it does not avail him anything.
