Guidance on the statement of Allah the Exalted: (When He showed them to you in your sleep as few)
It is known that the visions of the prophets are true,What is the answer to the statement of Allah the Exalted:
[Remember, O Muhammad], when Allah showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matterإِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلاً وَلَوْ أَرَاكَهُمْ كَثِيراً لَفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ
[Al-Anfal: 43] ?
The visions of the prophets are true without doubt, and Allah the Exalted showed His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) his enemy as few for the sake of a great benefit. It is a parable that Allah the Mighty and Majestic struck for him, and it is not a vision in reality; rather, it is a parable struck for him by Allah the Mighty and Majestic so that there would be no humiliation or cowardice in advancing in jihad; And for this he said:
if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matterوَلَوْ أَرَاكَهُمْ كَثِيراً لَفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ
[Al-Anfal: 43] So it was wisdom that Allah the Exalted showed them to him as a parable He struck in order to encourage jihad.

The questioner: Do you mean that this vision is not true? The Shaykh: No.
It is true from Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so the Messenger saw something true; but he did not see these people, rather he was shown them as a parable.
