Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it)
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7-8] (Whoever) is a conditional particle indicating generality, meaning: any person who does the weight of an atom, whether good or evil, will see it.And an atom's weight means: The weight of an atom, and the atom referred to here is the small ant, as is well known. It is not the common atom known today, as some have claimed; for the common atom known today was not known at that time. And Allah Mighty and Majestic does not address people except with what they understand. The atom was mentioned because it is the standard example for smallness. As Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Nisa: 40] And it is known that whoever does even less than an atom will find it. But because the atom is the standard example for smallness, Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7] .
And His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He: [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7] This indicates that what is weighed is the deeds.
And in this matter, the scholars differed: Some of the scholars say: What is weighed is the deed.
And among them are those who say: Some say: What is weighed are the records of deeds.
And among them are those who say: Some say: What is weighed is the doer himself.
And each has evidence.
As for those who said: As for those who say that what is weighed is the deed, they cited this verse as evidence: [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7] ;Because the estimation of the verse is: For whoever does a deed the weight of an atom, and they also cited the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Two phrases are beloved to the Most Merciful, light on the tongue, and heavy in the scale) And this opinion, as you see, has evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
But there is an objection to this: That the deed is not a body that can be placed in the scale, but rather the deed is a deed that has ended and passed.
But the answer to this is: First: It is said that a person must believe in what Allah has informed us of regarding the unseen matters. And even if his mind is perplexed by it and he marvels and says: How is this? We must believe, because the power of Allah the Exalted is beyond what we imagine.
Second: That Allah the Exalted makes these deeds into bodies that are placed in the scale and become heavy or light. And Allah the Exalted is able to make abstract matters into bodies, as is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that death is brought in the form of a ram and stood between Paradise and the Fire. And it is said: O people of Paradise, so they stretch their necks and look out. Why were they sent away? And it is said: O people of the Fire, so they stretch their necks and look out. Why were they sent away?It is said to them: Do you know this?So they say: Yes, this is death, although it is in the form of a ram, and death is a concept, not a body. But Allah the Exalted makes it a body on the Day of Resurrection, and it is said: (This is death, and it is slaughtered before them, and it is said: O people of Paradise, eternal abode, no death, and O people of the Fire, eternal abode, no death) And with this, the objection raised against this opinion is resolved.
As for those who said: As for those who say that what is weighed are the records of deeds,They cited the hadith of the owner of the card as evidence: (The one who is brought on the Day of Resurrection and it is said: Look at your deed. So the records are extended to him, written with the evil deed -great records- and when he sees that he is ruined,The small card was brought, in which is: There is no god but Allah,So he says: O Lord! What is this card with these records? It is said to him: Indeed, You do not wrong anything. Then the card is weighed in one scale and the records in the other, and the card outweighs them) And it is: There is no god but Allah.
They said: So this is evidence that what is weighed are the records of deeds.
And as for those who said: As for those who say that what is weighed is the doer himself, they cited the hadith of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): (That one day he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and a strong wind blew. So Abdullah ibn Mas'ud stood up, and the wind kept pushing him -because he was thin in the feet and legs- so the people were laughing. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What are you laughing at?Or: What are you marveling at? By Myself in Whose Hand is my soul! His legs in the scale are heavier than anyone else's) And this indicates that what is weighed is the doer.
It is said: We adopt the first opinion: that what is weighed is the deed. But perhaps for some people their records of deeds are weighed, and for some people they themselves are weighed.
If someone were to say: According to this opinion, that what is weighed is the doer, does this depend on the bodies of people in this world? And that the one with the large, great body makes his scale heavy on the Day of Resurrection? So
No, it does not depend on the person of this world. The fat, thick, large, broad-bodied man is brought on the Day of Resurrection and does not weigh a mosquito's wing with Allah. And this is Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (His legs in the scale are heavier than anyone else's) So the criterion is not the weight of the body or its lack of weight on the Day of Resurrection, but rather what they had with them of righteous deeds.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7-8] .
And in this entire surah: Warning and frightening about the earthquake of the earth.
And in it: Encouragement to righteous deeds.
And in it: That a deed is not lost no matter how small it is, even if it is the weight of an atom or less, for a person must see it and be informed of it on the Day of Resurrection.
We ask Allah the Exalted to conclude for us and for you with good, happiness, righteousness, and success, and to make us among those who are gathered to the Most Merciful as a delegation. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
Allah the Exalted said:
(7) So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, (8) And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْراً يَرَهُ * وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرّاً يَرَهُIndeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ وَإِنْ تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَاSo whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,
