Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: {So whoever does an atom's weight of good...} [Surat al-Zalzalah: 7]

Question:
A brother of ours from Dammam, whose initials are (M. A. H. J.), has two questions regarding the explanation of verses from the Noble Qur'an. In his first question, he says: I ask you to please explain the following verses after: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan:
(7) So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, (8) And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
[Surat al-Zalzalah: 7, 8].

Answer:
These two noble verses are clear on their surface, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called them the comprehensive, eloquent verse, meaning that they encompass both good and evil. They contain encouragement and warning, exhortation to good, and caution against evil. They state that nothing of a servant's righteous deeds is lost, and that he will encounter and see his evil deeds unless Allah turns to him in mercy and forgives him. For this reason, He, the Exalted, said:
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَه
[Surat al-Zalzalah: 7].
This indicates that nothing of your righteous deeds is lost; rather, they are counted for you, recorded for you, and you will be rewarded for them on the Day of Resurrection, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said in the other verse:
Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.
[An-Nisa:40]. He does not wrong anyone by the weight of an atom; rather, He is the Just Judge who gives every worker according to his work:
And your Lord does injustice to no one.
[Al-Kahf:49] . And if the adornment is for good, it is multiplied:
while if there is a good deed, He multiplies itوَإِنْ تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَا
[An-Nisa:40], meaning: if the deed that a person did was good, Allah multiplies it for him:
and gives from Himself a great reward.
[An-Nisa:40].
So, my brother, you must beware of evil deeds: the subtle and the grave, the small and the large. Do not belittle any of them, for most of the Fire comes from the small sparks that are underestimated. Never belittle an evil deed. It was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Beware of the small sins, for they accumulate upon the servant until they destroy him.
, and in another wording:
for they have a pursuer from Allahإن لها من الله طالبًا
Sunan Ibn Majah 4243Sahih (Darussalam)
.
Therefore, every believer, male and female, must beware of all evil deeds. Likewise, it is recommended for every believer, male and female, to accumulate good deeds and strive to do good, even if it is little. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
Protect yourselves against Fire even if it is with half a date, and he who does not find it, (he should do so) with pleasant words.
Sahih Muslim 1016c
.
It is authentic from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: A woman came with her two daughters begging, so I gave her three dates. She gave each of her daughters one date and raised the third to eat it. Her two daughters looked at her, asking for the third, so she split it between them and did not eat anything. I was pleased with her action. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, I informed him of the matter, and he said:
Indeed, Allah has obligated Paradise for her because of that.
.
This is half a date, and the mercy of a mother toward her two daughters, for which she was promised Paradise due to this mercy, this excellence, and this compassion, with something so little.
Therefore, a believer should not belittle any good deed. If he finds something to give to a poor or needy person, he should not belittle it: a date, a dirham, half a dirham, less, or more. The needy person benefits from everything, and the dates and small amounts of money gathered together benefit him.
This is the meaning of the noble verse: the exhortation to acquire good deeds, even if they are few or subtle, and the caution against evil deeds, even if they are few; for they accumulate until they destroy the servant. Likewise, good deeds, even if few, accumulate until they benefit the servant in his Hereafter and in this world. And Allah knows best. Yes.
