Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And indeed, He is a witness over that)

Allah the Exalted said:
And indeed, He is a witness over thatوَإِنَّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ
[Al-‘Adiyat: 7] (Indeed, He) It was said that the pronoun refers to Allah,Meaning: that Allah the Exalted bears witness over the servant that he is ungrateful for the favor of Allah,And it was said: that it refers to the human being himself,Meaning: that the human being bears witness against himself regarding his ingratitude toward the favor of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

And the correct view is: that the verse encompasses both of these, so Allah is a witness to what is in the heart of the son of Adam and a witness to his deeds, and the human being is also a witness against himself, but he may acknowledge this testimony in this world, or he may not acknowledge it, in which case he will bear witness against himself on the Day of Resurrection,As Allah the Exalted said:
On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
[An-Nur: 24] .
